The service workers’ union Verdi has once again called for a warning strike in the public transport sector. According to available data, serious disruptions are expected throughout the country on Friday (February 27) and Saturday (February 28). In Munich, one should also count on significant consequences, the report emphasizes.
In an official notification, the Verdi regional branch for Bavaria explained that during the current round of tariff negotiations, it is necessary, together with the workers, to increase pressure on municipal transport enterprises. The Munich Transport Company (MVG) has not yet provided its position. However, it is to be expected that due to the strike, buses, trams, and subway trains will either not go out on routes at all or will circulate in an extremely limited mode.
Strike will cover a total of 14 cities in Bavaria
The protest action in public transport will begin in the early morning hours of Friday and, according to Verdi information, will last depending on the region until Saturday or Sunday night. As during the two previous strikes on February 2 and 11, the city train (S-Bahn) will not be affected, as it is operated by Deutsche Bahn. Regional trains and suburban buses will also continue movement.
Verdi demands for approximately 9,000 employees a wage increase of 668.75 euros, a reduction in weekly working hours, as well as an increase in the minimum rest time to eleven hours. According to the union, during the last round of negotiations on February 13, the parties failed to achieve a convergence of positions. Besides Munich, the strike will take place in 13 other cities in Bavaria, including Dachau, Nuremberg, and Augsburg.
