Transit Adjustments Announced for Open Air 2025 Concerts at Munich’s Königsplatz

Munich’s Königsplatz will once again transform into a major open-air concert venue this weekend, with two headline events scheduled: rock legend Billy Idol will perform on Friday, followed by the 90s Super Show on Saturday featuring acts such as Lou Bega.

Large crowds are expected, and several changes to public transportation services will be in effect throughout the event.

The historic Königsplatz in Maxvorstadt will host the Open Air 2025 festival, drawing thousands of concertgoers. Due to the anticipated high volume of attendees, event organizers and the Munich Transport Corporation (MVG) strongly recommend planning travel in advance and using public transportation.

Public Transit Recommended for Event Access

The venue is well-connected by public transport. The U2 and U8 subway lines stop directly at Königsplatz station, located at the heart of the event site. Several bus routes also serve nearby stops, including line 58 (Oskar-von-Miller-Ring), line 68 (Pinakotheken), and line 100 (Technische Universität).

In addition, tram line 20 stops at Stiglmaierplatz, and line 27 is currently operating via a rail replacement service (SEV) with a temporary route to Karolinenplatz. Visitors arriving via the S-Bahn can disembark at Munich Central Station and walk approximately 800 meters to the event area.

E-Scooter Use Permitted with Parking Restrictions

E-scooters are allowed as a means of transport to the venue, but parking is prohibited on the event grounds and along direct access routes. Users are advised to plan ahead and park outside restricted areas.

MVG Bus Service Changes to Affect Multiple Lines

Due to the concerts, MVG has announced route changes from 8 a.m. on Friday until the end of service on Saturday. Several lines, including CityRing 58/68 and the Museum line 100, will not serve the Königsplatz stop in either direction. Additionally, the Technische Universität stop will not be accessible for buses heading toward Munich Central Station.

On routes toward Ostbahnhof, the regular stop at Elisenstraße will be replaced by a temporary stop at Hauptbahnhof Nord, located east of the Elisenstraße/Dachauer Straße intersection.

SEV for Tram Lines 27 and N27 Diverted with Several Stops Omitted

Replacement buses for tram lines 27 and N27 will be rerouted between Karlsplatz (Stachus) and the Pinakotheken. Several stops will be skipped entirely, including the one in front of Spielwaren Obletter at Stachus, as well as Ottostraße and Karolinenplatz.

Concertgoers are encouraged to check MVG’s latest updates and allow extra time for travel to ensure a smooth arrival at the festivities.
