Munich: Lost and Found Office will Hold Auction of Unclaimed Bicycles in Ludwigsvorstadt

The Munich Municipal Lost and Found Office is preparing to hold its traditional auction, an event that always generates high interest among local residents who value practicality and eco-friendly urban transport.

This time, the department will auction off an extensive batch of unclaimed bicycles that have not been recovered by their former owners within the legally prescribed period. The event will take place at the Department of District Administration building in the Ludwigsvorstadt district. For the convenience of potential buyers, the organizers have arranged an opportunity to inspect the lots in advance, allowing participants to make a well-considered choice.

The administration of the Bavarian capital officially announces that a wide variety of individual transport categories will be put up for bidding: women’s, men’s, as well as youth and children’s bicycles. The auction will take place on Thursday, May 21. Bidding will begin precisely at 09:30 AM in a specially equipped hall on the ground floor of the Department of District Administration (KVR), located at Ruppertstraße 11. Those wishing to personally assess the technical condition of the vehicles can do so directly on the day of the auction during a strictly designated time — from 08:30 AM to 09:15 AM. An important financial detail highlighted by the organizers is the method of payment: payment for purchased property is accepted exclusively in cash.

Around 60 Used Bicycles Without Warranty: Ludwigsvorstadt Department to Hold Bidding

In total, approximately 60 bicycles of various brands and modifications will be put up for auction. Potential bidders should critically evaluate the lots and take into account the specifics of this type of sale. The administration emphasizes that all vehicles were previously in active use, have not undergone comprehensive technical maintenance prior to the auction, and are sold in their current condition — without any legal or technical warranties regarding operational readiness, proper appearance, or completeness. Accordingly, subsequent repairs and retrofitting of the lots become the responsibility of the buyers. It is also worth noting that the main Lost and Found Office itself, located at Implerstraße 11, will be completely closed to the public on the day of the auction.

In conclusion, holding such auctions serves as an effective municipal logistics tool, allowing left-behind items to be rationally utilized and given a second life. For Munich residents, this is an excellent opportunity to acquire an affordable means of transport for personal use or countryside rides, while accepting the obvious risks of a lack of service warranty.
