House Explodes, Oktoberfest Closed: The Facts About the Suspected Perpetrator in Munich

Munich – The Bavarian capital is in a state of emergency. On the morning of October 1st, emergency services were called to a burning house in the Lerchenau district.

Cars were also affected, with residents vividly describing their experiences. Initially, much was unclear, including the motive, background, and the possible perpetrator. Now, more information about the case in Munich is gradually emerging.

Emergency services were called to the northern part of Munich in the morning due to a fire in a house and reports of explosion sounds. An injured person was later found by Lerchenauer See, who subsequently died. The residential building appears to have been deliberately set on fire, and explosive booby traps were discovered inside.

Police have since announced that two injured individuals were rescued from the house. One person remains missing.

Authorities believe the deceased is responsible for the explosions and the bomb threat but currently cannot approach the body. “We can’t access the area yet because we need specialized units trained in defusing explosives,” a police spokesperson stated.

The Oktoberfest remained closed initially due to a bomb threat believed to be connected to this case. “There is a current threat situation for the Oktoberfest, based on information from a crime that occurred in the early morning hours in northern Munich. A perpetrator has threatened the Wiesn, and both the police and coordination committee unanimously agreed that we cannot risk allowing people onto the Oktoberfest grounds,” Mayor Dieter Reiter said in a statement.

The Wiesn grounds are currently being searched. Whether the Oktoberfest will open today will be decided this afternoon.

According to police, the suspect is a German national registered in Starnberg. A house search is underway there at noon, with the SEK (special operations command) on site. “Search measures were also carried out at his registered address during the morning,” a spokesperson said. According to information from our editorial team, the man operated a general handyman business, using the delivery van that burned out earlier this morning.

Additionally, there are now reports of two injured individuals discovered around the burned-out residential building. They were rescued in or near the house and are now being treated in hospitals, a spokesperson explained. These are believed to be the suspect’s parents.
