Young Man Critically Injured in Snowblower Accident in Schönau am Königssee

A 19-year-old man sustained severe injuries while clearing snow at a community sports field in Schönau am Königssee on Saturday, January 17.

The serious industrial accident occurred around 12:00 PM at the Schneewinkl sports field. A local resident was operating a snowblower when he became entangled in the active machinery, resulting in life-threatening injuries. According to the Berchtesgaden Police Department, the young man fell while working and both of his legs were drawn into the snowblower’s intake mechanism. Colleagues at the scene immediately provided first aid and alerted emergency services.

Emergency Response and Medical Transport

The Traunstein Integrated Dispatch Center deployed a Red Cross team from Berchtesgaden, including an emergency physician and a rescue vehicle, as well as the “Martin 10” rescue helicopter from Pongau. Emergency responders stabilized the victim on-site before transporting him by ambulance to the Salzburg Trauma Clinic. Although the rescue helicopter was present, air transport was ruled out due to dense inversion fog in the area.

To support witnesses and those affected by the incident, the Red Cross Crisis Intervention Service (KID) was also deployed. The Berchtesgaden Police Department has launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident.
