Munich — Around 20:00 on Saturday, two girls aged eleven and thirteen were present on the roof of a school building in Baierbrunn. According to law enforcement reports, the roof of the structure is equipped with plexiglass skylights, which are not designed for pedestrian loads.
When an attempt to step on one of these panels was made, the covering was broken under the child’s weight, resulting in the fall of the younger girl from a height of several meters onto the hard floor of the interior. Rescue units were immediately called by witnesses via the 112 number.
Severe injuries and rescue operation
As a result of the hard landing, multiple severe injuries were sustained by the child. Due to the seriousness of the victim’s condition and the need for emergency transport, a police helicopter was dispatched to the scene, its noise being heard throughout the residential area. The girl was stabilized on-site by paramedics and transported to a specialized clinic for intensive care.
Investigation and safety concerns
According to the current state of the investigation, the version of an accident is being supported by the police. However, how exactly unhindered access to the dangerous roof area was obtained by the children is now being investigated by law enforcement and the school administration.
This incident has once again raised the issue of school infrastructure safety and the need for additional fencing in areas with fragile coverings. It is emphasized by the police that such walks on roofs pose a mortal danger, as old plexiglass becomes extremely brittle due to weather conditions.
