A 16-year-old Austrian was killed in a skiing accident in Tennengau, south of Salzburg. According to police, the teenager in the Schattberg-Flachauwinkl-Kleinarwl ski area jumped over a mound and noticed a skier who had fallen there too late. While attempting to avoid a collision with the fallen person, the 16-year-old boy veered off the piste and fell on unprepared terrain.
Likely Collided with a Hard Clump of Snow
During the fall, the teenager is believed to have struck his chest against a frozen clump of snow, a police spokesperson reported. An emergency helicopter airlifted the 16-year-old to a hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries there.
According to reports from Austrian media, the accident occurred on a well-known freestyle terrain park where enthusiasts and professionals can perform jumps on skis or snowboards over mounds.
