Munich – They consumed alcohol, marijuana, and hard drugs, likely in very large quantities. This dangerous cocktail ultimately proved fatal for a 16-year-old boy. The teenager died early Tuesday morning at a hotel located in the eastern part of the Munich district. The party there had completely spiraled out of control. Three other teenagers were taken to the hospital but managed to survive the ordeal. Police are currently withholding detailed comments on the progress of the investigation. This year, law enforcement has already recorded 40 deaths related to prohibited substances.
No Prohibited Substances Left in the Hotel Room
The emergency call was received Tuesday morning at 5:45 AM. When officers arrived at the hotel room, it was evident that a rowdy celebration had taken place. However, none of those present left any narcotics at the scene. Consequently, many uncertainties remain following that fatal night. For instance, it is unknown exactly how many people were in the room in a state of drug intoxication. Some were minors, while others were over 18. Interviews with the young men and women are ongoing.
The residence of the deceased youth has not been disclosed by the police department in the interest of the investigation and to protect his identity. He was a native of Bavaria and had no prior record with internal affairs. This stands in contrast to another 16-year-old and an 18-year-old who had to be hospitalized at a Munich clinic with signs of drug poisoning: both were already in the database for violations of the Narcotics Act. “They have already left the hospital,” reported police spokesperson Ralf Kästle. The same applies to a 17-year-old who was also taken to a medical facility later that morning. He was also present at the party.
Autopsy and Toxicology Results Pending
Everything indicates that the group intentionally met at the hotel to consume drugs. Whether this is indeed the case must be confirmed by the investigation. It also remains to be determined exactly who brought the prohibited substances. Toxicological blood tests are currently being conducted. Additionally, an autopsy of the deceased was performed on Thursday; the exact cause of death has not been established at this time.
Only at the end of November, a 34-year-old woman died of a cocaine overdose, after which her acquaintance left the body in a forest near Forstenried. In the last ten years, the number of drug-related deaths in Munich has fluctuated between 32 and 66 cases per year. Throughout Germany, this figure had long been around 700 people, as explained by Michael Mergenthaler, a representative of the prevention commissariat. Recently, the figure has increased to more than 2,100 people. According to him, serious challenges are posed by accessible online trade, synthetic substances, and a worrying trend: young people do not realize the danger and take consumption lightly.
