In Munich, the jewelry thieves and police officers engaged in a car chase that covered several city blocks. To localize and stop the vehicle of the robbers, the leadership of the operational headquarters deployed an emergency interception plan. In the operational measures, 40 patrol cars and a helicopter of the police air service were deployed.
Up to the present moment, two suspects have been detained directly at the location where the car was stopped. Another man was also taken into custody in the course of concomitant operational-search measures; however, the degree of his involvement in the crime is still being verified, a police representative reported in an official statement for the press.
According to the investigation’s version, the men broke into a Munich jewelry store that functions in a closed mode and from the outside does not have signs or other identifying marks for ordinary passers-by. According to preliminary data from law enforcement agencies, the malefactors stole merchandise, the total value of which is estimated at several hundred thousand euros. The exact amount of damage will be established after a full inventory is conducted by the administration of the retail outlet.
Police Seized Material Evidence
In the vehicle of the detained, police officers discovered and seized evidence of key significance for further criminal judicial proceedings. The police representative initially did not specify whether the found property is the stolen loot, citing the interests of the secrecy of the investigation and the necessity of conducting expert evaluations. The men were delivered to a pretrial detention center; on Thursday, it is planned to send them to an investigating judge for the selection of a restrictive measure for the period of the investigation.
In the jewelry store, which outwardly looks inconspicuous and does not have display windows, expensive premium-class watches and exclusive items made of noble metals, among other things, are sold. According to information from law enforcement agencies, four people who were inside the secured perimeter at the moment of the incident have been recognized as victims. None of them was injured; medical assistance was not required for the employees and owners of the salon.
Results of Operational Measures
The operational detention of the suspects within the city limits allowed preventing the possible sale of the stolen property on the illegal market. The investigation continues within the framework of the code of criminal procedure; criminologists are completing the collection of the evidentiary base at the facility and in the vehicle of the detained persons.
