Severe Turbulence Forces Emergency Landing of Ryanair Flight in Memmingen

The mid-air incident resulted in injuries to several passengers, with three requiring hospitalization.

Emergency Landing After Violent Weather Encounter

At approximately 8:44 p.m., the aircraft made an unscheduled landing at Allgäu Airport in Memmingen. According to police reports, the plane was carrying 185 passengers when it flew into a storm system, triggering intense turbulence. Current information indicates that eight individuals sustained injuries.

Child Among Injured as Passengers Thrown Against Cabin Ceiling

Three of the injured passengers were taken to hospital for further treatment. Among them was a two-year-old child who suffered bruising. One woman sustained a head laceration, while another complained of back pain. Five additional passengers received medical attention on-site but did not require hospitalization.

Eyewitness reports and statements cited by Bild newspaper described how some passengers were violently tossed upward, hitting the cabin ceiling due to the sudden jolt. The turbulence occurred without warning, catching many on board off guard.

Flight Grounded as Aviation Authorities Deny Clearance

After the aircraft landed safely in Memmingen, aviation authorities from Southern Bavaria declined to grant clearance for further flight. In response, Ryanair arranged for onward travel to Italy by bus, providing an alternative solution for the stranded travelers.

Ryanair Responds with Apology Following Incident

In a statement issued to Bayerischer Rundfunk, a Ryanair spokesperson addressed the incident: “We sincerely apologize to all affected passengers for the diversion and the inconvenience caused,” the airline said, expressing concern for those injured.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the turbulence and the airline’s emergency response.
