This option was previously limited to the U-Bahn but has now been extended to the S-Bahn network.
Easy Ticket Purchase Now Available for S-Bahn Riders
MVVswipe had already been available for U-Bahn travel, and the feature can now also be used on the S-Bahn. According to Deutsche Bahn, this extension became possible through collaboration with the provider Fairtiq. Users of the S-Bahn app “München Navigator” can seamlessly switch to the Fairtiq app, where a simple swipe on the screen marks the beginning and end of a journey. Once registered, passengers can use this function not only within the Munich Transport Association (MVV) but also in around 20 other regions in Germany as well as parts of Switzerland and Austria.
The process is straightforward: in the “München Navigator” app, passengers select the “Check-in Ticket – MVVswipe” option, which directs them to the Fairtiq application. A swipe on the screen is enough to start or end a trip. The feature also allows users to add up to four additional passengers to their ticket.
Always Paying the Lowest Fare
The app uses the smartphone’s location services to automatically detect the boarding and exit stations. For ticket inspection, a digital barcode can be displayed at the press of a button. Based on the detected travel route, the app calculates the lowest applicable fare. All trips taken until 6 a.m. the following day are included in the calculation. The fare will never exceed the cost of an MVV day pass, ensuring that passengers do not pay more than necessary. As a result, users no longer need to decide on a specific ticket type before starting their journey.
