Munich A95 Access Road to Be Closed Due to Bridge Demolition

The Kreuzhof bridges are scheduled for replacement. A temporary lane will be created, leading to closures. Detour routes have already been planned.

Automobilists in southern Munich face a test of patience in the run-up to Christmas. At the start of 2026, the A95 motorway bridge at the Munich-Kreuzhof interchange will be demolished and then rebuilt. Before the main bridge demolition work can begin, several preparatory measures must be implemented. Consequently, the access road from the A95 onto Fürstenrieder Strasse at the Munich-Kreuzhof exit will be completely closed.

Prior to the actual demolition of the bridge, temporary traffic must be routed from the A95 access road onto Fürstenrieder Strasse via the existing southern temporary bridge and back onto the A95.

To create this temporary lane, the entire access road from the A95 onto Fürstenrieder Strasse at the Munich-Kreuzhof interchange will need to be completely closed. From Monday, December 8, until Friday, December 12, the access road will be fully shut down.

Demolition of the Kreuzhof Bridge Structures

Despite the closure, not all exits at the Munich-Kreuzhof interchange will be restricted. The exit toward the city center onto Boschetsrieder Strasse will remain accessible, allowing traffic traveling from the south to exit the motorway there.

This connection remains an important option, especially for commuters heading from the south to Sendling or the city center. Nevertheless, motorists are asked to plan more travel time and account for an increased risk of congestion and accidents at the exit.

Bridge Alternatives for Commuters

Several alternatives have been provided as official detour routes. On the one hand, the Fürstenried interchange is available. Furthermore, there is the option to continue north on the A95 and use the Luise-Kiesselbach-Platz and the Mittlerer Ring (Middle Ring).

The Kreuzhof bridges (Kreuzhofbrücken) are two of a total of twelve Munich bridges partially constructed in the late 1960s using so-called “Sigma” tension steel. According to current findings, this steel is prone to stress corrosion cracking. This is why these bridges are regularly and intensively checked by the building department.

The inspection revealed that the bridge structures, built in 1966 in southern Munich, must be replaced due to their age and the condition of the material. Preparatory work began in August 2024, and two temporary bridges were installed in November 2024, which carry traffic during the construction phase.

The Kreuzhof bridges are located at the border of three city districts: Sendling-Westpark, Thalkirchen-Obersendling-Forstenried-Fürstenried-Solln, and Hadern.
