The American company Amazon has opened a new and larger central office in Munich. The 45,000 square meter building in northern Munich houses staff previously distributed across four buildings, the company announced. The Head of Amazon in Germany, Rocco Braeuniger, noted that the new building is further evidence of the company’s long-term commitment to Bavaria and Germany as a business location.
Amazon did not disclose the cost of the new German headquarters. However, the company did report that solar panels on the roof generate 200 kilowatts of renewable energy. Energy consumption is planned to be reduced by one-third, and water consumption by more than 40 percent.
Tens of thousands of helpers are also moving into the new office: three beehives in the inner courtyards will produce the company’s own honey. The first employees moved into the new workplace on Anni-Albers-Strasse in Schwabing starting November 20. The Amazon Web Services (AWS) division will continue to operate at its previous location on Oskar-von-Miller-Ring.

The new building is equipped with all kinds of amenities for the staff. It features an atrium with a stage and a barista, capable of accommodating up to 600 people, a movie theater, a music listening room, an area for table tennis, and more than ten green rooftop terraces for urban gardening and grilling. Additionally, there are 800 bicycle parking spaces, charging stations for e-bikes, repair stations, and 26 showers for cyclists and other athletes.
The conference rooms on the floors are dedicated to various aspects of Munich: from the subway network on the first floor and the names of Oktoberfest tents, landmarks, and lakes, to the city districts and surrounding mountains on the upper floors. Company representatives report that dogs are also welcome in the office.
Over €18 Billion Invested
According to Amazon, a total of over €18 billion has been invested in Bavaria since 2010, and 17 logistics centers have been built, for example, in Graben and Hof-Gattendorf, and sorting centers in Eggolsheim and Erding. The new building in Munich is the company’s 20th site in Bavaria. The company reports that more than 8,000 Bavarian sellers now conduct sales through Amazon.
The online giant employs over 40,000 workers in Germany and plans to continue expanding. In 2024, the company invested €14 billion in the Federal Republic. Despite the ongoing economic crisis in Germany, skilled specialists are still in demand in the technology sector.
