A large contingent of emergency services, including the fire department, was dispatched to the scene. Authorities have not yet determined the full extent of the evacuation measures required for nearby residents.
According to a fire department spokesperson speaking to t-online, assessments were underway to define the necessary safety perimeter around the discovery site. The unexploded ordnance was located between Belgradstraße and Kraeplinstraße, on the edge of Luitpoldpark.
The area surrounding the site includes several sensitive and densely populated locations, such as the Max Planck Institute of Psychiatry, multiple residential complexes, and the Schwabing Hospital.
The exact time the bomb was found during excavation could not initially be confirmed. However, it has been established that the device is equipped with an intact detonator. According to statements made by a fire department spokesperson to the Süddeutsche Zeitung, the bomb is scheduled to be defused later today.
