Sportscheck Run to Impact Public Transport in Munich on July 5

On Saturday, July 5, numerous streets across Munich will be transformed into a racecourse as the city hosts the annual Sportscheck Run.

This popular event draws thousands of runners each year and has become a permanent fixture in Munich’s summer calendar. However, the large-scale sporting occasion will also bring noticeable disruptions to the city’s public transport, especially to the bus network. Several routes will be diverted, and multiple stops will be temporarily out of service.

A longstanding event with routes through central Munich and the English Garden

The Sportscheck Run has been held regularly for over 40 years and is considered one of the highlights of the summer sporting season in Munich. Participants have the option of competing over three distances: 5 kilometers, 10 kilometers, or a half marathon covering 21.1 kilometers. The race begins behind the Siegestor and leads runners through Ludwigstraße and Thiemestraße. From there, the route continues through the scenic Englischer Garten and loops back to the starting point at the Siegestor.

MVG announces rerouting of several bus lines during the event

According to the Münchner Verkehrsgesellschaft (MVG), several bus lines will experience significant changes on Saturday due to the run. Routes that typically serve areas around Ludwigstraße and Leopoldstraße will be particularly affected.

Bus Line 54 will be diverted between the stops Mauerkircherstraße and Münchner Freiheit. Instead of its usual path, the line will operate via Dietlindenstraße. Because of this detour, the following stops will not be served: Chinesischer Turm, Thiemestraße, Giselastraße, and Hohenzollernstraße. Additionally, the Am Tucherpark stop will be relocated to the opposite side of the street in both directions. In the direction of Lorettoplatz, the Hirschauer Straße stop will also be moved to Tivolistraße, at the intersection of Tivoli- and Theodorparkstraße.

CityRing Lines 58 and 68 will be rerouted between the stops Oskar-von-Miller-Ring/Amalienstraße and Mauerkircherstraße. During this time, both lines will use an alternate route, and the Von-der-Tann-Straße stop will be moved to the street of the same name. The following stops will not be served by either line during the event: Universität, Siegestor, Georgenstraße, Giselastraße, Thiemestraße, Chinesischer Turm, Hirschauer Straße, and Tivolistraße.

Bus Line 154 will also be affected. It will operate on a detour route between Universität and Mauerkircherstraße. As a result, the same stops mentioned above – Siegestor, Georgenstraße, Giselastraße, Thiemestraße, Chinesischer Turm, Hirschauer Straße, and Tivolistraße – will be out of service for the duration of the event.

Night Bus Lines N43 and N44 will also be subject to diversions. Between the stops Münchner Freiheit and Mauerkircherstraße, both lines will operate via Dietlindenstraße and Am Tucherpark. Accordingly, the following stops will not be served during the rerouting: Hohenzollernstraße, Giselastraße, Thiemestraße, and Chinesischer Turm.

Passengers are encouraged to plan their journeys in advance and to consult MVG’s real-time updates for the latest information. The temporary changes will remain in effect for the duration of the Sportscheck Run and are necessary to ensure the safety of both participants and the public during the large-scale event.
