Munich: 53-Year-Old Man Falls in Front of Subway Train

A man fell onto the tracks at a Munich subway station and was run over despite an emergency brake application.

According to police, he was seen staggering on video footage beforehand.

At a Munich subway station over the weekend, a 53-year-old man fell onto the tracks and was seriously injured. As police reported, video footage shows the man standing up unsteadily from a bench beforehand. He then walked towards the platform edge and fell onto the tracks for reasons that are still unclear.

The subway driver immediately initiated an emergency brake but could no longer prevent the accident. The train ran over the man, who, according to police, managed to turn himself partially between the tracks. He sustained serious injuries, including to his head, and was taken to the hospital. His life was reportedly not in danger.

The officers assume the 53-year-old was under the influence of alcohol. A blood sample was taken from him. Further details regarding the sequence of events are the subject of the ongoing investigation.
