ADFC Schedules Major Bicycle Demonstration in Munich for May 2025, Route Details Pending

The Allgemeiner Deutscher Fahrrad-Club (ADFC) has announced the date for its next major cycling demonstration in Munich.

The large-scale bike rally is set to take place on Sunday, May 18, 2025, culminating at the city’s central Königsplatz. However, the exact routes—including which motorway sections may be used—remain under negotiation.

Cyclists to Converge from All Directions

Continuing a tradition from previous years, the ADFC is once again mobilizing cyclists from across the region to participate in the event. Riders are expected to approach Munich from various starting points throughout the metropolitan area. The unified destination is the Königsplatz, where thousands are anticipated to gather in support of enhanced cycling infrastructure.

The campaign will take place under the slogan “Just hop on, arrive safely – cycling infrastructure at motorway level.” Organizers are calling for a major shift in urban mobility planning, with demands for wide, safe, and comfortable bike lanes, clear signage, efficient traffic integration, and consistent maintenance of infrastructure.

Motorways May Be Closed to Highlight Demands

In a symbolic gesture aimed at raising awareness and urgency, the ADFC has proposed that parts of the demonstration route include motorway segments. The intention is to illustrate that bicycle transportation deserves infrastructure development on par with that of motor vehicles. On its official website, the organization emphasized that cycling routes should be expanded and maintained with the same priority traditionally given to car traffic.

Route Information to Follow, Based on Previous Demonstration Model

At the time of the announcement, specific route details had not yet been finalized. Discussions with city and transportation authorities were still ongoing. During last year’s event, participants traveled along 15 different routes, with some sections of the autobahn temporarily closed to allow the cyclists safe passage into the city center.

It remains to be seen which roads and highway segments will be affected this year. The ADFC stated that the final route plan will be published as soon as agreements with local authorities are concluded.
