A fatal accident on the A3 motorway near Höchstadt an der Aisch resulted in the death of a 38-year-old driver on Wednesday afternoon. According to police reports, the man died at the scene. The crash led to the full closure of the northbound lanes toward Nuremberg, triggering extensive traffic disruptions and a multi-kilometer tailback.

High-Speed Crash in Construction Zone

Initial findings by emergency responders revealed that the crash occurred in a construction zone shortly before the Höchstadt-Nord junction in the Erlangen-Höchstadt district. The car involved was reportedly traveling at high speed when it collided with a truck that had slowed significantly due to traffic conditions. The impact was so severe that the car became lodged under the rear of the truck.

The driver sustained critical injuries and succumbed to them on site, despite immediate emergency efforts. Paramedics could only confirm his death.

Accident Expert Deployed to Determine Cause

To determine the exact cause of the collision, authorities dispatched an expert in traffic accident analysis to the scene that same afternoon. Meanwhile, police launched a detailed investigation to reconstruct the sequence of events.

Traffic Redirected Through Schlüsselfeld Amid Prolonged Road Closure

In response to the full closure of the motorway in the direction of Nuremberg, police implemented a detour starting at the Schlüsselfeld exit in the Bamberg district of Upper Franconia. A police spokesperson stated that recovery and cleanup operations were expected to continue into the early evening.

As a result of the incident, a traffic jam stretching approximately nine kilometers had formed. Drivers were urged to avoid the area and use alternative routes where possible.
