8,000 Police Officers Deployed for the International Motor Show in Munich

From September 9 to 14, Munich will host the International Motor Show (IAA), and police are preparing for a major operation.

Munich – Following the Munich Security Conference and the Champions League final, police are gearing up for their third large-scale deployment of the year. The International Motor Show (IAA) begins on September 9 and runs until September 14. Around 8,000 officers will be on duty during the event, Deputy Police Chief Christian Huber announced at a press conference on Thursday.

This represents fewer officers than in 2023. According to police, the reason is that fewer protest actions have been registered compared to two years ago. Back then, climate activists from the group Last Generation had already caused numerous interventions in the run-up to the car show. This year, they are not expected in Munich. However, Huber, who will be in charge of operations, said police are still preparing for “isolated actions” outside the six planned demonstrations.

“We are prepared for disruptions related to climate and environmental protests,” – Huber explained.

Saturday is expected to be particularly challenging: in addition to the IAA demonstrations, which could draw several thousand participants, FC Bayern Munich will play Hamburger SV in the evening. The match has been classified as a “high-risk game.” About 2,500 officers will be deployed that day alone.

During the motor show, residents of Munich should expect traffic restrictions, especially on Saturday. Police have urged the public to avoid driving into the city center that day.
