Woman Killed in Collision Between Car and Commuter Train Near Munich

A woman has died following a collision between a passenger car and an S-Bahn train near Munich. Police have provided specific details regarding the circumstances of the tragedy.

Update: February 13, 07:49 AM. New details have emerged regarding the fatal incident near Munich. According to a press release from the Munich Police, a 53-year-old resident of Traunstein was driving a Fiat along State Road 2078 toward Rosenheimer Straße in Höhenkirchen-Siegertsbrunn. Law enforcement representatives explained: “At the junction with Faistenhaarer Straße, she turned right. Here, the railway tracks run parallel to the highway, which the woman needed to cross to continue onto Faistenhaarer Straße.”

The railway crossing at this location is not equipped with barriers. According to police data, the driver failed to notice the red flashing signal and intended to cross the tracks. Simultaneously, the driver of an S5 line train was also traveling toward Höhenkirchen-Siegertsbrunn. He immediately applied emergency braking; however, the train still struck the right side of the passenger car in a frontal impact.

The train dragged the vehicle several hundred meters before coming to a complete stop. The woman behind the wheel died at the scene. A dog that was inside the car was transported to a veterinary clinic with minor injuries. The train driver and all passengers on the S-Bahn were uninjured.

The passenger car sustained critical damage, requiring assistance from the fire department and a towing service for its removal. The train sustained minor damage. State Road 2078 was closed for several hours for report processing and evidence collection. A technical specialist for traffic accident assessment was brought in for the investigation.

The deceased died at the scene during the night, as reported by the police in response to an inquiry from the dpa agency. Photographs show that the black subcompact car was partially crushed by the impact and thrown in the direction of the train’s movement. According to the police, no injuries were reported among those on the train.
