Alarm at Verdi in Nuremberg: a letter with an unknown white powder triggered a special operation on Wednesday morning involving fire brigade and police forces. One floor of the union building was cleared of people, police stated. A spokesperson for the department did not specify the content of the threatening letter for tactical reasons related to the investigation.

According to city spokesperson Andreas Franke and the police, the letter with the unknown substance was discovered around 10:30 AM. As BR learned from those affected, several Verdi employees were prohibited from leaving their offices. The building was cordoned off by police.
Three people in the union building on Kornmarkt square had contact with the unknown substance. So far, they have shown no physical reactions. For another eight people who were on the floor, it remains unclear whether they came into contact with the powder.
Mysterious white powder
Specialists from the State Office for Health and Food Safety (LGL) were called in to examine the powder. It is a matter of gaining certainty relatively quickly as to what kind of substance it is, explained city representative Franke.
