The local CSU branch has therefore cancelled a nomination event scheduled for Saturday—just a few months before the Bavarian local elections.
The CSU mayor of Neubiberg (Munich district), Thomas Pardeller, was caught with 0.2 grams of cocaine. Without naming him, Munich police reported that on October 11th, officers had found “a small quantity of a white powder” on a 37-year-old man in Munich, which was later identified as an illegal narcotic. The local CSU branch publicly addressed the incident directly, announcing that a nomination event planned for Saturday would be postponed as a result. The incident was first reported by “Bild.”
Pardeller: Does Not Want to Burden Nomination Event
In the local branch’s press release, Pardeller himself is quoted: “The public prosecutor’s office has not yet initiated formal investigation proceedings. However, I do not want the nomination event to be burdened by this matter. Therefore, I have asked the local executive committee to postpone tomorrow’s meeting to a later date.”
According to the Neubiberg CSU, the next steps in the police proceedings are still unclear. Pardeller states in the press release that he stands for “absolute transparency” and will “inform the public about the progress of the matter.” The presumption of innocence applies until a final conviction.
Police Report Resistance and Restraint of the 37-Year-Old
According to the police, the 37-year-old man refused to hand over the “white powder,” leading officers to bring him to the ground, restrain him, and take him to a police station. A complaint was filed for violating the Narcotics Act, and he was subsequently released.
The local CSU branch had already unanimously nominated Pardeller as its mayoral candidate for the local election on March 8th, 2026, back in June. It was stated at the time that he had been leading the municipality since 2020 “with passion, foresight, and determination.” The incident is likely to be an inconvenience for both the CSU and Pardeller just months before the election.
