Two-Michelin-Star Chef Appointed as New Head of Atelier at Munich’s Bayerischer Hof

The Hotel Bayerischer Hof is among Munich’s most luxurious accommodations. Now, its signature restaurant, Atelier, is set to welcome a new culinary leader.

Munich — With 337 rooms, including 74 suites, and over a century of history, the Hotel Bayerischer Hof is considered one of the most expensive and famous establishments in the city. Movie icons such as John Travolta and Sophia Loren have stayed here. Following Easter, the kitchen at the restaurant Atelier will see a change in leadership. Starting April 1, Kevin Romes, originally from Andernach (Rhineland-Palatinate), will take over as Executive Chef. The thirty-five-year-old is regarded as one of the most promising chefs of his generation and will showcase his skills to guests starting April 17.

New Culinary Leadership at Bayerischer Hof from April

The chef has already built an impressive resume at several renowned establishments. Most recently, since the spring of 2022, he served as Head Chef at Skin’s – The Restaurant in Lenzburg (Canton of Aargau, Switzerland). There, he successfully earned the restaurant two Michelin stars, which are among the highest honors a chef can receive. Prior to that, Romes worked in the kitchens at Schloss Elmau.

The young culinary master is no stranger to Bavaria. In Rottach-Egern, he worked as Chef de Partie at the gourmet restaurant Überfahrt alongside Christian Jürgens. Now, he returns to the region to take a pivotal position at one of Munich’s premier hotels. Romes noted: “It is with great joy and respect that I accept the leadership of the restaurant Atelier at the Hotel Bayerischer Hof. After many years in Bavaria, I am delighted to return to the region that has become my second home. Together with this wonderful team, I want to build upon the rich culinary history of the establishment—with passion and heart.”

Kevin Romes Joins the Bayerischer Hof Team After Easter

Innegrit Volkhardt, managing partner and co-owner of the Hotel Bayerischer Hof, expressed confidence in the new appointment: “In Kevin Romes, we have found a chef who embodies the highest artisanal quality, international experience, and a clear culinary signature. His previous career, alongside his standards for top-tier cuisine, creativity, and modern team management style, makes him an exceptional fit for the restaurant Atelier. We look forward to our shared future with great anticipation.”

Until Romes officially begins his duties, Sous-Chef Valentin Krehl will remain in temporary charge of the kitchen. The restaurant will be closed for a transition period between April 3 and April 17.
