Erding to Become Central Hub of Germany’s Defense Strategy

The state government sees Erding playing a prominent role in the future. The Defense Lab will become the country's sole center for security technologies.

Erding is set to play a prominent role in Germany’s future defense strategy. This forecast comes from the Bavarian State Government. In a press release following a cabinet meeting on Tuesday, the State Chancellery made it clear that the Free State (Bavaria) is the largest center for defense technology in Germany, and the security and defense industry offers new prospects for the Bavarian economy.

Approximately 50,000 employees are registered across more than 200 companies, generating a value added of €9.5 billion. Companies such as ARX Robotics, based in Oberding, have become leaders in the development of the latest weapons systems for the Bundeswehr and NATO forces.

With the introduction of the Defense Lab Erding, a unique nationwide center will be created where civilian and military security technologies can be developed and tested. “The establishment of the Bundeswehr innovation center in Erding will be a central step toward achieving this goal,” the State Chancellery press release stated.

“The Bavarian Defense Industry Promotion Act will also remove regulatory barriers for the development, testing, and production of defense products, and will support Bavarian companies when applying for orders from the federal special fund, as well as in European tenders.”
