Federal Police Hunt for Knife-Wielding Suspect After Attacks in Munich

The Federal Police are searching with photos for a man who has already attacked two passersby. According to authorities, the suspect may still be armed.

Munich – The man attacked two people in the Bavarian capital. Now the Federal Police are asking the public for help in identifying the suspected knife attacker, warning that he could still be carrying a weapon.

An earlier witness appeal on August 28 yielded no results. After reviewing video footage, investigators have now released surveillance images of the suspect. According to police, the man was involved in “two violent incidents with a knife” on Wednesday evening, August 13 – one at Pasing station and another at Karlsplatz (Stachus). Authorities warn: “The suspect could be armed!”

Man Brandished Knife – Attacked Passersby on Station Platform

At around 9:10 p.m. in the underground area of Stachus, the suspect threatened two men and spat at them while holding a knife, before boarding the S6 train toward Pasing. Around 9:35 p.m., he exited the train, followed a 63-year-old man, and suddenly shoved him down several steps at the platform exit to track 7. The victim suffered a wrist sprain and abrasions to his knee and elbow.

Brave Bystanders Likely Prevented Worse

An unidentified traveler intervened. When the suspect turned toward him with the knife, the man reportedly subdued him “with what appeared to be a judo hold,” police said. Shortly after, another unknown passenger stepped in and grabbed the suspect’s forearms. However, he was forced to let go when the suspect bit him, before fleeing in an unknown direction. Throughout the incident, the suspect held a knife but did not use it.

The Federal Police are investigating charges of assault, threats, and harassment. On behalf of the Munich I public prosecutor’s office and by order of the Munich District Court, they are now conducting a public search for the suspect. Authorities are also calling on the two unidentified helpers from Pasing station, the victims at Karlsplatz, and any additional witnesses to come forward. Information can be reported to the Federal Police Inspectorate in Munich at 089/51 555 00.
