Track Replacement Work Begins on Munich’s U3 Metro Line

Passengers should prepare for disruptions: from Tuesday to Friday, the U3 line has been split into two sections. A specialized rail milling train is working on the tracks in the southern part.

Munich – Passengers on Munich’s U3 metro line are facing disruptions this week. As announced by MVG in a press release, rail grinding work is taking place from Tuesday to Wednesday (November 25-26) and from Thursday to Friday (November 27-28), which has necessitated splitting the line into two separate sections.

Rail Milling Train Deployed During Night Hours

The maintenance work is being carried out on the nights of November 25/26 through November 27/28, as reported by MVG. A specialized rail milling train has been deployed on the southern section of the U3 line. The work begins each day at 10:30 PM and lasts until the end of service.

Service During the Work:

  • Moosach – Sendlinger Tor: Service every 10 minutes.
  • Implerstraße – Fürstenried West: Service every 20 minutes.

During this work period, the U3 line is split into two independent sections. The northern segment from Moosach to Sendlinger Tor is operating at a 10-minute interval. The southern part from Implerstraße to Fürstenried West is running at a 20-minute interval.

The U6 line is providing regular service on the section between Sendlinger Tor and Implerstraße, where the U3 cannot operate for logistical reasons, as stated in the MVG press release.

Different Departure Tracks in the Southern Section

On the stretch between Thalkirchen (Tierpark) and Fürstenried West, trains are partially departing from different platforms than usual, MVG reported. Passengers are asked to pay attention to the destination displays on the platform.

In the coming weeks, the rail milling train will also be working on sections of the U6 line. Work on the U2, U3, and U6 lines is planned for the new year. Further information and reference materials can be found on the website mvg.de/fraeszug. MVG is informing passengers of the changes via announcements, digital displays, and audio messages. Details on routes and connection information are available on mvg.de and in the MVGO app.
