Leak Detected Again in the Wave Pool at Munich’s Cosimabad

The wave pool at Cosimabad has sprung another leak. As a result, the entire bathing complex and its sauna will be closed for two and a half weeks. Water has seeped into the technical rooms below.

Cosimabad is having water trouble again! A leak has been detected for the second time in the wave pool of the SWM baths. Unfortunately for visitors, this means the entire bathing complex in Bogenhausen will temporarily close—from this Saturday at 3:00 PM for an estimated two and a half weeks.

Wave Pool Leaking Again: Munich Indoor Pool to Close Entirely

The Cosimawellenbad first opened in 1980. Back in 2017, shortly after a major €12.5 million renovation, it was noticed that the 35-by-16-meter pool, lined with steel plates, was leaking. A closure was also required at that time to carry out repairs.

In the current case, according to Stadtwerke München (SWM), water has seeped through a leak into the technical rooms below. Therefore, the wave generator was shut down several weeks ago. “Under operating conditions, it has not been possible to precisely locate the leak, nor to determine its exact size and the potential presence of other damage,” explained SWM spokesperson Christian Mieling. It is presumed to be a hairline crack in one or more welds. “To find the leak, the wave pool must be drained. Once the pool is empty and the damaged area is found, the leaking section can be re-welded.”

The entire bathing complex will be closed for this complex repair, affecting the sauna as well. The reason for the full closure, according to the spokesperson, is “construction logistics and the expected noise from the work.” Repair work is estimated to last until approximately December 14th. SWM has apologized to visitors for the inconvenience and will announce the precise reopening date as soon as it is confirmed.
