Families can look forward to the coming year as well: starting Monday, December 8th, the Munich Family Pass is available again. A packed calendar of events has already been prepared for 2026.
The city’s program allows access to numerous events for children and families from Munich as well as from the surrounding districts: Dachau, Ebersberg, Erding, Freising, Fürstenfeldbruck, Munich, and Starnberg. According to city authorities, the pass is valid from January 1st to December 31st.
Munich Family Pass: Key Information
The city introduced the Family Pass to slightly ease the financial burden on families when planning leisure activities. The cost is €6, and only one pass can be purchased per household—except in cases where a family has more than four children, in which case an additional free pass can be applied for.
Those registered in the participating districts can purchase the pass at an in-person sales point or online. According to city authorities, the offer also includes single parents, foster families, and same-sex partnerships with children.
Discounts for Families
In addition to coupons for free admission to Munich’s public swimming pools, the Family Pass contains numerous discounts and coupons:
Museums: Discounted entry is provided, among others, at the Glentleiten Open-Air Museum, the Museum Fünf Kontinente (Five Continents), the Alpine Museum, the Deutsches Museum, and the Dinosaur Museum in the Altmühl Valley.
Zoos and Animal Parks: Hellabrunn Zoo, Poing Zoo, and Gut Aiderbichl estate offer coupons for families.
Sports: Discount offers also apply to numerous sports facilities and outdoor activities, including the summer toboggan run on Blomberg mountain, archery, the ‘Himmelstor’ climbing gym, squash and badminton, the Kampenwand cable car, and Alpine Association events.
Food: It becomes cheaper at numerous agricultural enterprises in and around Munich, for example, at the Hermannsdorfer Landwerk workshops, at the Breitsamer apiary, or when buying ice cream at ‘Sarkletti’ café.
Culture: Cultural offerings also cost less than usual, for example, from the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, at the film festival, at the Bavarian State Opera, or at the children’s theater and youth library.
Events for Families
The program also includes numerous events for children and families. Specific conditions may vary; however, advance registration is most often required.
Here is a small selection of key events on the calendar:
For Children: The Munich Philharmonic Orchestra will kick things off with a performance on January 16th. “The Snowman” is a show for children aged 5 and up. Admission: €5.50 for children, €11.50 for adults. This is followed by a tour of the Munich animal shelter together with the wildlife rescue station (February 18th) and a visit to a Munich fire station (March 7th). Both events are free.
Summer will also feature a carpentry course (June 13th), cost: €5. In autumn, there is a walk to learn about trees and mushrooms (September 19th). Those interested can even collect a few mushrooms. Cost: adults €6, children €3.
The program will conclude with Munich’s city hall offering a tour (October 24th).
Questions like the following will be answered: Where does the mayor hold council meetings? When is the ‘Münchner Kindl’ (city’s heraldic figure) put to bed? Participation costs €3 per person.
Events for the Whole Family: There are also plenty of joint events. Families will be able to, for example, enjoy a guided tour of Munich’s old town together (April 26th) and get to know local culture. Participation costs €3.
For the hands-on types, there is a raft-building workshop (May 10th) on the shore of Lake Fasaneriesee, where families build a raft together and then paddle it on the lake. Adults pay €8, children €4.
And those ready for more activity can take part in a rafting tour on the Isar River (June 20th) from Lengries to Bad Tölz. Cost: €15 for adults, €10 for children.
