MVG to Increase U-Bahn Service This Weekend Due to Major Events and S-Bahn Line Closure

This weekend, October 18-19, Munich is hosting several major events simultaneously, coinciding with a partial closure of the main S-Bahn line.

The Olympiapark will be the venue for the “Loop One Festival” on both Saturday and Sunday. This major biathlon event is designed to get fans excited for the upcoming season. Additionally, two Hans Zimmer concerts are scheduled in the Olympiahalle. Due to these concurrent events, the Olympiapark management recommends that visitors arrive early by car. Should parking at the main “Parkharfe” facility reach capacity, the BMW garage on Dostlerstraße will be opened as an additional option.

Football Match at the Allianz Arena

On Saturday evening at 6:30 PM, a Bundesliga top match between FC Bayern München and Borussia Dortmund will take place at the Allianz Arena. This exciting clash is expected to draw a large number of fans to the stadium. The U-Bahn lines U3 and U6, which serve both the Allianz Arena and the Olympic complex, are expected to be very busy. Passengers are advised to expect dense crowds and to travel as early as possible to avoid long waiting times.

MVG Responds to Increased Passenger Numbers

The Münchner Verkehrsgesellschaft (MVG) is responding to the unique transport situation: According to press spokesperson Maximilian Kaltner, U-Bahn service for the football match will be increased to the usual 3-minute intervals. Furthermore, during the S-Bahn main line closure, the U4 line will be extended to Westenstraße station.

“For the Loop One Festival, the organizer has not indicated an exceptionally high number of attendees. We are therefore expecting a usual passenger volume,” said Kaltner.
