Edeka Renovation Temporarily Shuts Down Post Office in Munich’s Sendling District

Полная реконструкция супермаркета Edeka на юге Мюнхена привела к многомесячному закрытию расположенного внутри него почтового отделения, что ограничило доступ жителей района Sendling к почтовым услугам.

Munich – Starting immediately, the Edeka store on Implerstraße 17 is undergoing a full-scale modernization. The renovation is expected to last until early November, during which time the supermarket will remain closed to the public. Shoppers are being directed to alternative Edeka locations, including the branch on Plinganserstraße and the express store on Lindwurmstraße. However, the closure extends beyond groceries: the Deutsche Post partner branch located within the store will also be out of service throughout the construction period.

Postal Services Disrupted, Packstation Remains Available

The postal branch, operated as a Deutsche Post and DHL partner location, will be unavailable for the duration of the renovation. This means no in-person mail or parcel services will be accessible at this site for several months. Still, the Packstation located in the supermarket’s parking lot will continue to operate and remains accessible to customers for parcel pickups and returns.

District Officials Seek Alternatives Amid Postal Service Gap

The issue was discussed at a recent meeting of the Sendling District Committee. Michael Kaiser, spokesperson for the CSU party, raised the question: “Will the Harras post office stay open longer? Is there a substitute location?” This comes in light of the February closure of the Postbank branch on Partnachstraße, which had already reduced access to postal services in the area. In response, Postbank spokesperson Oliver Rittmaier confirmed that the branches at Harras and Goetheplatz “will definitely remain open at least through the autumn.”

Deutsche Post Working on Interim Solution During Edeka Closure

The Implerstraße location is a partner branch, not operated by Postbank but by DHL under the Deutsche Post network. In response to inquiries, company spokesperson Jasmin Derflinger stated that the postal services at this site would resume “in their full scope” once renovations are complete. In the meantime, she confirmed that efforts are underway to maintain service in the area: “To ensure the best possible postal service, we are actively working – together with Edeka – on an interim solution.”

Until a replacement is implemented or the renovation ends, residents of Sendling will need to rely on other postal locations nearby to meet their mailing and parcel needs.
