Second Fatality Confirmed After Tram Stop Crash in Munich

Two and a half weeks after a serious car accident at a tram stop in Munich, another victim has succumbed to her injuries. Munich police confirmed on Friday that the deceased is a 79-year-old woman who was critically injured in the incident.

The tragic crash occurred on May 7 near Donnersbergerbrücke, a busy intersection in central Munich. According to police reports, a car drove into a tram stop and struck multiple pedestrians. In total, seven people were injured, three of them seriously.

Roughly one week after the accident, a 22-year-old woman died from her injuries. With the death of the 79-year-old woman, the number of fatalities has now risen to two. As of the latest police update, there is still no new information on the condition of the third person who was seriously injured in the crash.

Collision with Van Preceded the Crash

Preliminary investigations revealed that the 52-year-old driver of the vehicle involved in the incident had been traveling alongside a 34-year-old man in a delivery van. At some point, the two vehicles collided. As a result of the crash, the 52-year-old lost control of his car, veered off the road, and slammed into the tram stop.

Authorities have not yet determined who was at fault. The police declined to comment on which of the two drivers is under investigation. An accident reconstruction report is currently being prepared to clarify the cause of the crash, but no timeline has been given for its completion.

Munich police are investigating the incident on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter in connection with the fatal collision.
