The Munich resident collided with a snowplow on Thursday on a mountain road near Sölden. The vehicle plummeted about 30 meters down a steep slope, and the 52-year-old man suffered severe injuries. Notably, snow chains were not installed on the accident vehicle, despite a mandatory requirement for their use.

The 52-year-old man was traveling with his 17-year-old daughter on a winter mountain road near Sölden on Thursday. In a left-hand bend, a clearing machine approached from the opposite direction. Despite attempting to brake, the Munich resident could no longer prevent the collision with the snowplow, according to police reports.
After the impact, according to police information, the car veered off the edge of the road and fell down a steep slope into an abyss approximately 30 meters deep. The driver sustained serious injuries. His daughter escaped with minor injuries and was able to leave the car on her own. Representatives of the Sölden Mountain Rescue Service reported on Facebook: Through joint efforts, the trapped person was quickly freed, provided with first aid, and then carefully evacuated. After the successful rescue, the victim, accompanied by an emergency doctor, was taken by the Sölden Red Cross to the Innsbruck clinic for further treatment.
In the relevant section of the road under winter conditions, according to police data, there was a mandatory requirement to use snow chains. However, no chains were installed on the Munich resident’s vehicle.
