Altstadt-Lehel — On Saturday evening, February 7, a 70-year-old man fell from the platform and was hit by an arriving train at the Karlsplatz S-Bahn station. Police representatives reported that the tragedy occurred around 9:00 PM. The man was standing with his back to the rails and was about to pick up a bag when he lost his balance and fell. According to investigative data, the fall occurred without the involvement of any third parties.
Elderly Man Perishes Following Accidental Fall
At the same moment, an S-Bahn train was arriving at the station from the outskirts, heading toward the city center. The driver immediately applied emergency braking, but the collision could not be prevented. The 70-year-old victim died at the scene from his injuries. The train driver and witnesses who were on the platform required assistance from specialists of the crisis intervention group that arrived at the scene.
Operations at Karlsplatz Restricted for Two Hours Due to Investigation
Track 1 was closed for approximately two hours for the inspection of the scene. In the opposite direction, S-Bahn trains passed through Karlsplatz without stopping. The Munich Traffic Police have taken over the further investigation into all the circumstances of the incident.
