School for Sick Children to Get New Premises at Schwabing Hospital

In Munich, children who require regular hospital treatment for an illness will soon be able to attend school directly on the grounds of the Schwabing Hospital again.

On Wednesday, the city council’s education committee decided to provide the school for sick children with new premises in a former ward building.

School for Sick Children: Renovation Costs Approximately €38 Million

The building at Kölner Platz is set to be renovated and converted. In addition to the school, the facility will also include a daycare center with three nursery and three kindergarten groups, as well as an educational center for children up to ten years old.

This center will offer music, dance, and research activities, among other things. The total cost is approximately €38 million, with the city expecting to receive subsidy funding. The school is scheduled to open for the 2030/31 academic year.

Return to Schwabing

The school was previously housed on the hospital grounds, but currently, its approximately 50 student places are located in a temporary pavilion. The decision by the city council to establish a long-term solution has also been welcomed by the CSU and Free Voters faction.

In a press release from the faction, CSU city councillor Beatrix Burkhardt praised the cultural offerings. “We are pleased that after a long planning phase, a good and long-term solution for the children has now been decided,” said Burkhardt. She added that the new premises will offer the ill students “a protected space and a sense of normality.”
