Spring Magic in Munich’s Westpark: Experience the Almond Blossom

Munich offers many green retreats beyond the famous English Garden. Right now, a walk through Westpark in Sendling-Westpark is especially rewarding as spring is in full bloom.

Almond Trees and Colorful Meadows
Across roughly 70 hectares, Westpark shines with vibrant colors: white, pink, and lilac blossoms stand out against lush greenery. After the cherry blossoms, the pink almond blossoms are now the main attraction. Daffodils in yellow and white brighten the paths to the West Lake, while geese and their chicks roam the meadows accompanied by birdsong.

A Taste of East Asia
The East Asian Ensemble near the West Lake features a Japanese and Chinese garden, a Nepalese pagoda, and a Thai sala with a Buddha statue. Here, the almond blossoms are particularly stunning. Magnolias are also still in bloom, though their peak season is ending.

Hidden Paths and Nature Encounters
Small hidden trails lead into the eastern part of the park, where visitors might spot rabbits or squirrels. A bridge over the Mittlerer Ring connects to the northern section of the park.

Relax at the Bauwagen Café
After your walk, the cozy café Gans am Wasser by the Mollsee is perfect for a break. Set in a relaxed atmosphere, it serves vegan and traditional cakes, coffee, beer, Aperol Spritz, and non-alcoholic lemonades, plus snacks like rosemary fries.

Getting There

  • Western section: Take the U6 to Westpark station, then a 10-minute walk.
  • Eastern section: From Heimeranplatz (U-Bahn/S-Bahn), about a 15-minute walk.
