“Kino am Rang” Open-Air Cinema Reopens with New Screenings, a Beer Garden, and Live Music

The development of local cultural initiatives in Bavaria continues to shape a high-quality leisure environment for city residents and society as a whole.

From June 12 to June 20, the traditional open-air cinema festival will once again take place on the grounds of the Weihenstephan university campus in Freising. This season, the organizers have prepared an updated concept for the event, which is designed to expand the project’s target audience. This year, the program will feature a specialized children’s entertainment day for the first time, which will take place on June 13 and offer young visitors interactive leisure formats.

Throughout the specified period, the Weihenstephan campus will transform into a large-scale public space once again. Guests of the festival can look forward to regular screenings of well-known cinematographic films under the open sky on warm summer evenings. The event is organized by the prominent local cultural association “Prima leben und stereo” (PLUS), which invites everyone to visit the “Kino am Rang” open-air cinema. A fully functioning beer garden with a large grill will reopen at the venue, and visitors are welcome to bring their own food for the barbecue, creating the atmosphere of a classic family picnic. Performances by guest musicians and a themed quiz scheduled for June 7 are also planned.

Operational Features and Regulations for Attending the Festival

The main innovation of this season will be the children’s entertainment day with a diverse animation program, scheduled for June 13. Each evening of the festival begins at 7:00 PM with relaxation by the grill. At approximately 10:00 PM, with the onset of a sufficient level of natural darkness, the film screening itself kicks off. Admission to the event is free. At the same time, the organizers are reaching out to guests with the following request: “To finance this event, we rely on the sale of drinks and snacks. For this reason, bringing your own drinks is strictly prohibited.”

In conclusion, it should be noted that the reopening of the “Kino am Rang” cinema serves as an example of the effective use of academic spaces for the development of city-wide culture. The combination of free admission with commercial self-sufficiency through the food court makes it possible to keep the event accessible to all segments of the population while ensuring a high level of organization and comfort.
