Tour Bus Crashes Near Weiden – Numerous People Injured

A serious accident involving a bus occurred on Friday at the Weiden-Frauenricht exit of the A93 motorway.

The vehicle broke through a noise barrier before finally coming to a stop on a slope. Many people were injured, three of them seriously. According to the police, the cause of the accident is not yet known.

At the Weiden-Frauenricht exit on the A93, a tour bus crashed earlier today. A large number of passengers were injured, three of them seriously, police reported. The bus had been operating as a replacement for rail transport and was carrying 32 passengers at the time of the accident.

Driver Lost Control of the Bus

According to initial findings, the 67-year-old driver attempted to leave the motorway during the morning. While taking the curve, he lost control of the bus. The exact cause remains unclear, police said. The vehicle skidded, broke through both the guardrail and a noise protection wall, and only came to a halt in a steep embankment covered with dense undergrowth.

Driver Trapped and Rescued by Firefighters

The fire department first had to secure the vehicle to prevent it from sliding further. The bus driver was trapped in the driver’s cabin and could only be freed by rescue teams. He and two passengers suffered serious injuries and were taken to nearby hospitals. The remaining 30 passengers were able to leave the bus. According to early assessments, most of them sustained only minor injuries such as bruises or were in shock.

Vehicle a Total Loss

Police stated that the almost brand-new bus sustained total damage, estimated at several hundred thousand euros. According to officials, the exit will likely remain closed until late afternoon.
