Safety App SafeNow Expands to Oktoberfest

Munich – Getting help quickly and easily with just one tap: that is the promise of the SafeNow safety app.

According to the developers, the app is already being used in several nightlife clubs and is available at Oktoberfest in the Armbrustschützenzelt and the Schottenhamel festival tent. For this year’s festival, two more tents are joining: the Ochsenbraterei and the Hofbräu-Festzelt will also offer guests the option to request immediate assistance through the app in case of emergency.

How the app works

Anyone with SafeNow installed on their smartphone can send an alarm to on-site security staff with a single click—available to both guests and employees. Within a designated area defined by the organizer or venue, those seeking help can be located quickly, and security personnel are notified with an alarm including the user’s precise location. This, the developers say, creates “unprecedented speed in bringing together helpers and those in need.”

Origins and mission

SafeNow was founded in Munich in 2018. Founder Tilman Rumland explained to our editors how the idea came about: the vision is to give everyone free access to immediate help. According to the company, SafeNow is now the fastest independent safety infrastructure worldwide. In addition to sending locations to security teams, the app also includes a group function to discreetly alert family, friends, or colleagues.
