Truck Damages Bridge, ICE Train Traffic Between Munich and Ingolstadt Halted

Sudden traffic accidents on key Bavarian railway routes lead to serious train delays and disrupt the regular schedule of thousands of passengers.

In the Baar-Ebenhausen area, a truck driver collided with a railway bridge. The timeline for resuming train traffic on this busy section directly depended on the results of a technical inspection of the affected structure’s load-bearing elements. This incident led to the temporary suspension of an important transport line connecting major industrial and administrative centers of the region.

Due to damage to the bridge, train traffic on the railway section between Munich and Ingolstadt was temporarily blocked. A few hours later, representatives of Deutsche Bahn announced the lifting of restrictions. “The technical inspection of the bridge and our test runs have been successfully completed,” a Deutsche Bahn spokesperson reported. Trains can run through this section once again, making long-distance and commuter travel according to the regular schedule available to passengers once more.

Consequences of the Incident for Long-Distance and Regional Train Schedules

According to Deutsche Bahn, long-distance trains operating on the fastest route between Munich and Nuremberg were diverted via alternative routes for some time due to the track closure. In the afternoon, travel delays amounted to approximately 30 minutes.

Regional trains on the RE1 and RB16 lines partially terminated their journeys early or waited for the tracks to reopen at stations ahead of the closed section. The general disruption to train operations lasted for nearly four hours, requiring dispatchers to promptly alter logistical schemes.

Causes of the Accident in the Baar-Ebenhausen Area and Overpass Safety Inspection

The disruption was caused by a traffic accident involving a truck. According to a local police spokesperson, the driver failed to take the height dimensions of his vehicle into account and struck the structure of the bridge in the Baar-Ebenhausen area.

Following the recording of the damage, the railway administration brought in a specialized expert to verify the structural stability and safety of the facility. Train traffic was opened only after the reliability of the supports was confirmed.

In conclusion, it should be noted that the accident in the Baar-Ebenhausen area showed the high dependence of regional transport connections on local incidents on motorways. The four-hour disruption on the ICE line demonstrated the importance of prompt response by Deutsche Bahn’s technical services. Thanks to the timely involvement of bridge engineers and the execution of test runs, specialists managed to quickly confirm the safety of the structures and fully restore the movement of long-distance and commuter trains without creating long-term logistical problems for passengers.
