The first facilities will be technically ready to welcome visitors as early as the beginning of May. Decisions regarding the launch of swimming infrastructure are typically made well in advance to ensure residents have access to high-quality leisure options as soon as stable, warm weather arrives.
Currently, the pools managed by Stadtwerke München (SWM) are undergoing extensive “winterization removal” (Auswinterung). This technical process involves comprehensive engineering and aesthetic preparation of the sites for summer operation following the winter months.
- Technical Checks: Specialists are thoroughly cleaning pool basins with specialized agents, checking for leaks, and activating complex filtration and water heating systems.
- Landscaping: Alongside technical work, administrative buildings are being tidied, lawns are being refreshed, and seasonal maintenance is being performed on the surrounding greenery.
First Pools to Open on May 1
According to the established schedule, the outdoor pool season in Munich will traditionally begin on May 1. The historic Schyrenbad will be the first to open its doors. As an exception this year, the city administration has decided to also begin operations at the Dantebad summer zone on the same day, helping to distribute the initial flow of visitors and provide more comfortable swimming conditions.
Other municipal outdoor facilities are officially scheduled to resume operations on May 14 (Ascension Day). These include:
- Westbad
- Michaelibad
- Ungererbad
- Prinzregentenbad
A specialized approach is required for the city’s two natural pools—Maria Einsiedel and Georgenschwaige. These sites utilize biological water purification systems; therefore, their exact opening dates will depend on biological cycles and the growth rate of the aquatic plants responsible for filtration.
Further details regarding the 2026 season, including final inspection results and ticketing information, will be published by city services shortly before the start of the season.
