High Technologies in the Sky: What Program Is Planned for the Munich Festival “Sommernachtstraum” in the Current Year

The summer calendar of major cultural events in the Bavarian capital once again confirms the status of Munich as a center of technological innovations and large-scale spectacular art.

In the evening time, the sky over the Olympic Park will become the main element of the “Sommernachtstraum” holiday. The traditional festival, which annually attracts tens of thousands of residents and guests of the city, will in the current year offer the audience a conceptually new format of a visual show based on the synergy of classical art and digital solutions. During the festive fireworks display over the Olympic Lake, pyrotechnics and the technologies of unmanned aerial vehicles will connect. The show will last 30 minutes and will visually reflect the development of energy from the first light impulse to volumetric figures, accompanied by a large-scale concert program on the ground.

The visitors await a comprehensive thirty-minute pyrotechnic presentation completely synchronized with musical accompaniment and the score of light effects. The organizers reported on the introduction of an important technical novelty that brings regional standards of conducting mass events to the level of the leading world multimedia shows.

The production group of the company FOG fireworks + sfx GmbH will present a large-scale fiery spectacle under the name “Tetra – The Shape of Energy”. This staging combines within itself classical pyrotechnic effects of high-altitude fireworks and the programmable capabilities of modern light drones. At the basis of the artistic concept lies the visual display of energy, which sequentially develops from a primary light point, passes through lines, and then transforms into complex spatial planes and volumetric geometric figures.

First Live Music, Then the Presentation in the Sky

The engineering and logistical preparation of the project required the creation of a complex temporary infrastructure on the water surface. On the Olympic Lake, they will equip a total of 30 fireworks launch points, which will be stationarily arranged in the shape of a triangle facing the spectators to achieve the maximum viewing angle and create a panoramic perspective. The organizers paid special attention to technical scaling: instead of the 50 flying objects used last year, this time they will deploy 150 high-technology LED unmanned aerial vehicles capable of building dynamic three-dimensional objects in the air. Official information about the event and tickets are available for purchase on the specialized website sommernachtstraum-muenchen.de.

The festival “Sommernachtstraum” has long acquired the status of a traditional event for the Olympic Park and annually gathers tens of thousands of visitors, acting as an important element of the city identity of Munich. The program of the holiday is traditionally divided into substantial blocks: before the beginning of the light show, popular musical collectives will perform before the guests, among which in the current year the famous German performer Zoe Wees is declared, which ensures high interest in the event on the part of lovers of live music even before the onset of twilight.

The integration of advanced IT solutions into the entertainment industry demonstrates the vector of development of the modern city culture of Munich, oriented toward eco-friendliness, safety, and technological superiority. The upcoming show “Tetra – The Shape of Energy” is called upon not simply to entertain the public but also to visually demonstrate the potential of coordinated robotic systems in creating fundamentally new forms of public art, consolidating for Munich the status of a progressive European megalopolis.
