Bundeswehr Conducts Major Exercise with Over 500 Soldiers in the Munich Area

A large-scale military exercise will take place in Bavaria over the coming days, involving more than 500 soldiers and auxiliary personnel.

Under the name “Marshal Power,” the exercise will run from October 22nd to 29th in the area encompassing Munich, Ingolstadt, Regensburg, Deggendorf, and Landshut. Its goal is to practice cooperation between the Feldjäger (the Bundeswehr’s military police) and civilian security organizations, as announced by the Bundeswehr’s Feldjäger Regiment 3. More than 500 soldiers, as well as volunteer helpers, will participate. The regiment notes that the public should expect an increased presence of military vehicles and soldiers in public spaces and on the roads.

The scenario focuses on national and collective defense. Exercises will include securing critical infrastructure, conducting raids, discovering a weapons cache belonging to hostile separatists, cooperating with fire departments under simulated enemy fire, and conducting rescue and recovery operations after a serious bus accident. The exercise will span twelve districts, including, for example, Freising and Erding.

The exercise is also a response to the current European security situation, which, according to the official announcement, “can be located neither in peace nor in war.” “For this reason, training and exercise activities have been intensified for over three years.” “Marshal Power” is described as unprecedented: “For the first time, training on this scale and with this intensity is being conducted,” stated the Feldjäger Regiment. It is the largest exercise of the year for the military police, taking place across an area of approximately 8,000 square kilometers and involving a total of around 800 participants.
