Lost and Found Office Manages 4,500 Items Lost at Oktoberfest

Мюнхен. Это классическая ситуация, которая может случиться с каждым: вы отправляетесь праздновать на Октоберфест, а возвращаетесь с меньшим количеством личных вещей, чем было.

And that’s not just referring to the high expenses associated with Oktoberfest. More often, it’s personal items that get lost in the hustle and bustle. This year, the total was 4,500 items. Whether it’s a jacket, a wallet, keys, or just an umbrella – in the end, you’re always glad to have your belongings back. Responsible for reuniting people with their items is the Wiesn’s Lost and Found office.

During the 16 days of the festival, you can simply go directly to the Lost and Found office at the Theresienwiese to check if your lost item has turned up. But what if the Oktoberfest has already been packed away and you’re still searching? The City of Munich now informs: “Starting November 17, 2025, all Wiesn lost property can be viewed at the central lost and found office at Implerstr. 11, following a prior appointment.” If items remain unclaimed at the lost and found office, they are usually auctioned off.

Those wishing to collect items should bring an ID. For valuable objects like a smartphone, a mobile phone contract or similar proof should be presented to demonstrate ownership. The entire retrieval operation runs until January 23 of the new year. Last year, a hefty 2,600 items were still on-site in early January. Lost and Found chief Rainer Kohles appealed at the time, saying it was definitely worth stopping by if something was missing. The clothing items were worth hundreds, perhaps even thousands of euros in total, as were the many hats, phones, headphones, bags, and keys. “You can still come and search for something until the end of January.” The same is likely to be true again this year.
