Thanks to the quick reaction of an Oktoberfest visitor, the woman was rescued. The Munich Fire Department reported on the dramatic incident with a fortunate outcome in a press release on Saturday, September 27th.
Around 12:08 PM, the 86-year-old woman slipped down the embankment into the Isar Canal. Due to a visual impairment, she had not noticed the slope. Using her last bit of strength, she held onto a branch. A young man from London, who was staying at a nearby hotel for the Oktoberfest, recognized the dangerous situation and acted immediately. He jumped into the water to help the woman and secured her.
Shortly afterwards, police officers arrived and assisted the man. Together with personnel from the Munich Fire Department, they managed to bring the woman safely to shore. She was subsequently taken by ambulance to a Munich hospital. No further details are currently known about the woman’s condition or any potential injuries. However, it is certain that the young Oktoberfest visitor, with his quick intervention, prevented a worse outcome, potentially even the woman’s death.
