District — “Shaping markets instead of managing crises” has become the slogan for protests organized by the German Dairy Farmers Association (BDM) in response to the current dairy market crisis and the continued collapse of purchase prices. Josef Taffertshofer, representing the BDM, told the local newspaper: “Following last week’s start in Stuttgart, we will continue our journey to Munich on Wednesday, January 28.”
Convoy Planned Between Odeonsplatz and Ministry of Agriculture
Farmers from the Weilheim-Schongau district have been urged to join the action prepared by the regional team. According to the plan, tractors will move in a circular convoy between Odeonsplatz and the Ministry of Agriculture. This maneuver is intended to symbolize the political “rotation of responsibility” between state, federal, and EU authorities, which farmers claim leaves them simply “walking in circles.”
The public rally, scheduled to begin at 11:00 AM at Odeonsplatz, will serve as an urgent appeal to Minister-President Markus Söder, Agriculture Minister Michaela Kaniber, and Federal Agriculture Minister Alois Rainer. Protesters are demanding that officials push the EU to activate existing crisis management tools, such as voluntary supply reduction. The BDM insists that authorities must do everything in their power to prevent further financial losses for farming operations.
