Munich / Berg am Laim – As the summer holidays come to an end, Berg am Laim will, as always, throw a celebration. This year too, the local citizens’ association, together with many clubs and organizations from the district and with support from Borough Council 14, invites everyone to meet right outside their doors, discover what’s happening in their community, and enjoy the festivities. On Sunday, September 14, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Baumkirchner Straße, the Grüne Markt, and Behrpark will be transformed into a lively festival area.
Program on Baumkirchner Straße
At the Grüne Markt stage, guests can look forward to a varied music program. The festival kicks off at 11 a.m. with the Blechmucer, a five-piece brass band from Munich’s east side. Around 1 p.m., during the music break, children and adults are invited to Behrpark, where magician René will entertain with a mix of magic and humor.
From 3 p.m. until the festival ends, the band The Movement will perform, bringing funk and soul to the stage with outstanding musicianship and a wide-ranging repertoire.
The beer garden at the Grüne Markt will be run by the host of Steinhauser Einkehr. Culinary offerings will also be provided by Restaurant Pastello, ice cream parlor Gelatino, and Café Pfarrsaal. The café at St. Michael’s parish hall (Baumkirchner Straße 26) opens at 1 p.m. and welcomes cake donations, which can be dropped off on Sunday between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Proceeds from the cake sales will support the cultural activities of the citizens’ association and the youth work of St. Michael’s altar servers.
Clubs and Institutions at the Festival
Local clubs and institutions will showcase their work at numerous information booths and offer small activities to join in. Participants include Berg am Laim kindergartens, the ASZ social center, VdK, the Malteser, the parishes of St. Michael and Sophie Scholl, political parties represented in Borough Council 14, ESV München Ost, the Towasan karate school, ConDrobs, the Zeugnerhof youth center, the citizens’ association, Volk-Verlag, Munich VHS, several animal and environmental protection initiatives, and many more. The neighborhood center baum20 will also be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., presenting the current exhibition Herbstrauschen by the Berg am Laim Artists’ Guild.
At the same time, the nationwide Day of Open Monuments will take place. Starting at 3 p.m., there will be a guided tour along the nearby Berg am Laim Way of the Cross, beginning at the parish meadow of St. Michael, Johann-Michael-Fischer-Platz 1.
