According to police reports, advanced technical equipment allowed the recovery team to identify and locate the bodies in the clear but deep alpine lake. The accident occurred the previous Saturday, after which the father and son had been reported missing. Initial search operations using divers, boats, sonar, tracking dogs, and helicopters had yielded no results.
Specialist Divers Made the Discovery Possible
The crucial breakthrough came only after a professional diving unit was brought in on Friday. Their efforts led to the successful recovery of both bodies the following day. The Garmisch-Partenkirchen Criminal Police are now leading the investigation to determine the precise circumstances of the incident.
Preliminary findings suggest that the child fell into the water during a paddle boat outing. The father reportedly jumped in immediately in an attempt to rescue his son, but neither resurfaced. Authorities have found no evidence of third-party involvement.
Mother and Younger Daughter Were Also on Board
At the time of the incident, the 34-year-old mother and the couple’s four-year-old daughter were also on the pedal boat. The family is from the Haßberge district in Lower Franconia. The surviving family members received immediate psychological support following the incident.
