Munich — It is time to bring out the traditional attire for the strong beer season. Initially, this nutritious beer was brewed to help monks endure the Lenten fast with liquid food; however, these festivals have now transformed into an occasion for general celebration. Advance ticket sales in the beer halls are already in full swing. This material provides essential information on the largest celebrations in Munich and the surrounding region.
Strong Beer Festival Season Begins in Munich
The famous Derblecken, featuring honorary guests at Nockherberg, will take place on March 4. Ordinary Munich residents will have the opportunity to enjoy the Paulaner Salvator variety (a one-liter mug — Maß — for 14.90 euros) between March 6 and March 29. The band Südherz will provide the festive atmosphere. Remaining tickets are still available at evening box offices or on the official website. Table reservations for ten people are available at a total price of 195 euros (this includes ten admission tickets and one voucher for a one-liter mug of beer per guest).
The Löwenbräu Triumphator variety (14.80 euros per liter) will be presented at the festival in the Löwenbräukeller from February 20 to March 21. Those wishing to join the celebration can purchase either an admission ticket without a table reservation for 14.80 euros, which already includes one liter of the beverage (making the entry effectively free), or reserve an entire table for ten people. In the latter case, a mandatory condition is a menu order; the most affordable option with a traditional snack plate costs 8.50 euros per person (beverage not included). Tickets are sold through the establishment’s official website.
From February 27 to March 28, the festival will take place at the Augustiner-Keller, offering the Augustiner Maximator variety at 10.20 euros per liter. Live music will be provided by the house ensemble Harthauser Musi. Parties in the Lagerkeller area will be held from Thursday to Saturday, with the festival hall additionally used on Fridays and Saturdays. The entry fee is 10 euros per person. Weekends are in high demand; reservations are made via the official website.
For two days (February 27 and 28), the holiday will be celebrated at the Hofbräukeller with the band Gerry & Gary. The Hofbräu Delicator beverage will be offered at 11.80 euros per liter. Tickets priced at 18.50 euros per person (including 0.5 liters of strong beer) are available for groups of four or more. Additionally, a snack plate for ten people can be pre-ordered.
Celebrations in the Surrounding Region
At the Tegernseer Bräustüberl, invited guests will celebrate the holiday on March 24, and on March 25, the doors will open for everyone wishing to hear the traditional sermon by Brother Barnabas. The Tegernseer Quirinus Dunkel variety will be offered at 3.30 euros for 0.5 liters or 6.60 euros per liter. Admission tickets at 15 euros will be sold directly at the establishment.
Although strong beer will be served in Aying from March 6 to March 29, the main celebration featuring a sermon by brewery director Helmut Erdmann will take place on March 13 and 14 in the Sixthofstadl hall. A liter of the Ayinger Celebrator variety will cost 11.80 euros. The entrance fee is 10 euros, and table reservations are accepted via email.
