Allan McNish, a long-time Audi factory driver and former Formula 1 pilot, has been appointed to lead this talent incubator.
The youth development programme is essential for the new factory team to remain competitive against established rivals as it aims to challenge for the World Championship by 2030. Team Principal Jonathan Wheatley noted, “Investing in the champions of tomorrow is a cornerstone of our Formula 1 strategy.” The programme selects and supports promising young drivers from karting and junior racing series, offering them a clear pathway to Formula 1. Participants will work closely with engineers and specialists from the F1 team while receiving off-track training in areas such as media relations and marketing.
“The task of laying the foundation for the future Audi Revolut F1 Team is a great honor and a responsibility that is very important to me,” shared McNish. He further emphasized: “This brand is built on the tradition of ‘Vorsprung durch Technik,’ and this philosophy must apply to our young drivers just as much as it does to our cars. We are looking not only for pure speed but also for the resilience, intelligence, and team spirit that define a future Audi champion. I look forward to starting this work to find the first generation of talent for this ambitious project.”
McNish competed in 16 Grands Prix for Toyota in 2002 and served as a Formula 1 test driver for many years. As an Audi factory driver, the Scotsman won the 24 Hours of Le Mans twice and secured four victories at the 12 Hours of Sebring. In 2005, the driver, who is now 56, competed for the Ingolstadt-based brand in the DTM series, and in 2013, he won the FIA World Endurance Championship. After retiring from active racing, he took over as Team Principal for Audi in Formula E.
