In recent weeks, fatalities and severe poisonings posing a direct threat to life have been recorded in the region. The cause of this frightening trend is modified electronic cigarettes to which high-potency chemical compounds were secretly added. The situation is considered critical, as dangerous substances enter the bodies of consumers under the guise of ordinary vaping liquids.
In Munich, several shocking incidents directly related to the use of these “enhanced” vapes have become known in a short period. The Bavarian State Criminal Police Office (BLKA) confirmed information about two deaths. Furthermore, a case of severe intoxication involving two people was recorded, one of whom remained in intensive care for a long time. According to the investigation, the victims used devices containing the synthetic opioid etodesnitazide (also known as etodezitramid) in the liquid. In one episode, doctors had to perform emergency resuscitation on-site to save the patient.
Deadly chemistry: substances with an extreme risk level
The etodesnitazide discovered in the devices belongs to a group of new synthetic opioids and is officially recognized as an exceptionally dangerous substance. Expert circles emphasize that the destructive power of such chemicals is comparable to the notorious fentanyl. The main treachery lies in the fact that even microscopic dosages, barely visible to the eye, can cause irreversible consequences for the human body.
A particular, almost guaranteed threat is the combination of such synthetics with any other substances that depress the central nervous system. This risk group includes strong alcohol, pharmaceutical benzodiazepines, or technical GBL (gamma-butyrolactone). The interaction of these components, according to forensic data, is absolutely unpredictable. Such “cocktail” effects on receptors can instantly cause respiratory depression, which leads to a fatal outcome without immediate medical assistance.
Police issued an emergency warning
Law enforcement agencies are effectively sounding the alarm, trying to prevent new victims. The department issued a compelling appeal to citizens to completely refrain from purchasing and using any suspicious chemicals via vaporizers. The main difficulty for doctors and toxicologists currently is the complete lack of reliable clinical data on the exact mechanisms of these new compounds’ effects on the brain. Every puff of such a mixture turns into a deadly lottery where an underground chemist dictates the rules of the game.
Practice shows that even a slight, accidental overdose leads to cardiac arrest or lung paralysis. Current events clearly demonstrate the full danger of new synthetic drugs, which are often masked as harmless “designer substances for laboratory research.” The police urge maximum vigilance and ask people to inform their loved ones about the deadly trap hidden in the body of a modified vape.
